Austin began racing karts in 2003 at Toney Speedway in Toney, Alabama.
He raced a limited schedule in 2003, where at age 8
he won 4 poles, placed 2nd in 4 races and 3rd in 2 races.
Austin raced in the inaugural Nashville Asphalt Kart Series at
the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN
in 2004. He recorded 2 feature wins and placed 2nd in overall points in the Junior Sportsman I Division.
Austin raced in the Nashville Asphalt Kart Series again
in 2005. The Series was moved to the Tennessee
Speedway in Dickson, TN. While missing 4 races, he
still placed 3rd in the overall point standings. He
recorded 2 wins and placed 2nd in 5 races. Austin
ended the season with an impressive win in the
Nashville
Kart Series Fall Finale held at the Music City Motorplex.
He overcame a crew chief error and stayed in the hunt
until he made the final pass with just 3 laps to go.
Austin moved up from the Sportsman I division to the Junior Division
in 2006 at the age of 12. The Junior Division is for drivers from
age 12 to 16 with faster
engines. He was the youngest driver in this division (12) and
won the Championship by winning 7 of the 12 races.
Austin raced karts about half the season in 2007, but
the series ended due to financial issues.
Austin took a few years off and is now ready to climb
back in the cockpit. He will be racing super trucks at
Highland Rim Speedway.
